Thanks also to the Teaching Staff, the Pupils

St.
Brigid’s Girls’ School was presented with our third

G.A.A.
It was a
fantastic year for all our Gaelic football players!
Ms Darcy and Ms Frawley have trained the girls to a very high standard
and the girls have also benefitted from our association with Foxrock Cabinteely
G.A.A. club, and training from our visiting coach, Mr. Pat Ring.
The Senior
team reached the finals of the Division 1 league in the Cumann na mBunscol
Competition again this year. They
won all their league matches and narrowly lost the final to Scoil Colmcille,
Knocklyon, in Croke Park in December.
The girls were delighted with their silver medals though, which were
presented to them, at a ceremony in the school hall in February by Dublin Senior
player, Ciaran Whelan.
Croke Park
– Sunday 28th June.
A team of
ten players from St. Brigid’s (4th and 5th class girls
from next year’s panel) are likely to meet Ciaran Whelan again next Sunday!
We are honoured that a team
of 10 girls from St. Brigid’s Girls’ School have been asked to represent Dublin
in a mini-match against Westmeath Schools at half-time during the Senior Match,
Dublin v Westmeath. Best of luck to
Amy Donnelly, Anna Fisher, Ciara Crotty, Chloe Mc Donnell, Eimear Hickey, Lauren
Hanney, Roisin Gallagher, Hannah Foster-Ryan, Robyn Mc Guinness and Doireann
Shaffrey as they don the Dublin Jersey and represent their county and their
school.
Foxrock
Cabinteely Inter-Schools Football Blitz.
Next
year’s Gaelic football panel had a trial run in the Foxrock / Cabinteely
Inter-Schools Football Blitz on Wednesday 17th June . The blitz
involved teams from local schools including St. Patrick’s Hollypark, St. Anne’s
Shankhill, and Our Lady of Good Council, Johnstown.
After a wet start the sun shone on the blitz and on the girls from St.
Brigids – all our teams did very well and St. Brigid’s Girls School overcame a
strong St. Patricks G.N.S. Hollypark team to win the cup, in the final.
Well done girls – the win gives us great hope for next years’ campaign.
Thanks to Ms. Darcy, Ms Frawley and all
the parents who helped on the day and congratulations to Foxrock Cabinteely on
an extremely well organised event.
Musical Evening and Other High Notes !
A most
enjoyable musical evening was held in the School Hall on Wednesday 10th
June. We had a wonderful performance by the School Orchestra, conducted by
Orchestra Teacher, Michelle Le May.
The Orchestra also took part in the Córfhéile Festival in March.
The 6th
class choir sang the two songs they performed so well in the Wesley Choral
Festival and the New Ross Choral Festival. The choir was conducted by our very
talented choir teacher, Mrs. Orla Gillan.
We had individual performances from our clarinet and flute players and
group performances on the recorder by Mrs Gillan’s and Mrs O’Farrell’s 5th
classes.
The Senior
Choir (5th and 6th classes together) sang a variety of
songs from the National Childrens’ Choir Repertoire. It was a most enjoyable
evening.
National
Concert Hall
Thank you
to the girls from the Senior Choir who were part of a magnificent performance of
the National Childrens’ Choir in the National Concert Hall on Sunday, 7th
June, and of course to our own teacher Mrs. Orla Gillan, who conducted both the
choir and the orchestra on the night.
Historians
of the Future!
Mrs
Sheehan’s 6th class entered an History Project in
the “Business in the Community” Award Scheme run by Bank of Ireland.
They took first prize with their project on the 1960’s
They took an in-depth look at the politics of the time, and in particular
at John F. Kennedy and his links to Barack Obama.
They also had a visit from Neil Mc Ivor, (Alice O’Riordan’s granddad) to
talk about life in the 1960’s. The class
also treated the school to a 1960’s fashion show! A well deserved win for a very
comprehensive and imaginative project.
Our
fund-raising events held this year were : Trocaire €4,684.70,
Wells for Zoe €1074.00 ,
€1500 towards the building of a school in Kitui,
Stuart Mangan Appeal €661.50 and the National Rehabilitation Centre
