Video for 2nd Class

Unfortunately the 2nd class Communion Day was postponed this year. We knew that the girls would be disappointed, so we made them a little video to mark what would have been their Communion Day. A special thanks to Fr. Aquinas for his lovely message to the girls. Can you name the members of staff on their Communion Day?

Junior Infant Butterfly Art

From home, the Junior Infant girls have been learning about the lifecycle and characteristics of butterflies.  This inspired creation of  their very own symmetrical butterfly masterpieces. Please click on the images to enlarge and enjoy.

Farewell to Mrs. Sweeney.

Beautiful Artwork around the school for Mrs. Sweeney’s Retirement!

Photos from Thursday the 5th and Friday the 6th of March

A lovely Mass was celebrated in the school on Thursday, March 5th, to mark the retirement of our much-loved principal, Ms Aedeen Sweeney.

The school was awash with colour. The hall and every corridor were decked with beautiful art work created by the children for their principal.

Past principals and retired teachers joined the children at this special mass. Also in attendance were representatives from the Board of Management, the parents and the garden committee and most importantly Ms Sweeney’s own family.

The mass began with the infant girls singing the hymn ‘We Sing a Song to Brigid’. Fr Aquinas delivered the mass while some pupils said readings and the prayers of the faithful. The sweet sound of all the girls joining together to sing beautiful hymns echoed through the corridors. They were so well behaved and were a credit to the school and their parents.

When the girls went home the adults had a great celebration in the hall for Ms Sweeney and her family.

On Ms Sweeney’s final day, March 6th, we had a special assembly so the girls could express their good wishes for Ms Sweeney. The Student Council said a poem they had composed in Ms Sweeney’s honour. All classes were represented by this group.

This was followed by an interview with Ms Sweeney when every class got to ask Ms Sweeney one question. The girls hung on her every word. Ms Sweeney had her audience captivated by her amusing stories in her replies. She gave great thought and time to each answer. And boy did she have a lot of questions to answer – twenty!

After this the Parents Association presented Ms Sweeney with a charming cake and generous gift from all the children and parents of St Brigid’s Girls School.

Finally, Ms Sweeney received some gifts created by the children to remind her of her happy years in St Brigid’s. Among those gifts were a jigsaw and a photo of the message, “Slán”, created by the pupils themselves and taken in the yard with drone technology!

For the girls (and the staff) more treats were to come. Ms Sweeney had orgnised an ice cream van for the school and we all indulged in some tasty cones. Thank you Ms Sweeney!

We will miss our principal a lot, but wish Ms Sweeney much joy and happiness as she begins this new chapter in her life.
