🎄✨ Second Hand Christmas Jumper Sale! ✨🎄

We are so thrilled to share that our Second-Hand Christmas Jumper Sale was a great success! Not only did we spread festive cheer with some fun and cozy jumpers, but we also raised an amazing €200 for our school!

A big thank you to everyone who donated, shopped, and supported this event. Your kindness and generosity truly made a difference, and it’s a perfect reminder of the joy in giving and reusing this season.

🎃 Halloween Costume Sale 👻

With Halloween around the corner, our school hosted a second-hand costume sale

Buying pre-loved costumes reduces waste and minimises the environmental impact of creating new costumes each year. By reusing, we’re reducing the demand for fast fashion and cutting down on the resources used in production.

The sale itself raised €257! Well done to all who contributed costumes and thank you to those who purchased.

Lights Out Challenge

Our Green Team has been working very hard encouraging each class to turn their lights and interactive whiteboards off during yard times. During yard time 2 members of our Green Team complete a spot check on all the classrooms and check who has remembered to turn off their lights. Each month a junior and a senior class is awarded with a trophy and either extra yard time or a night off homework.

December 2023 winners: Ms. Lambe’s 2nd class and Ms. Kelly’s 6th class.

January 2024 winners: Ms. Quish’s Junior Infants and Mr. Spain’s 6th class.

Art Competition

Our senior classes took part in an art competition in October. The Green Team noticed that some girls were unsure of what waste goes into each bin. To help ensure we are throwing our rubbish into the correct bin, our senior classes designed a sign for their classroom bins which clearly outlined what the girls can put in each bin. We then shared our designs with the junior classes.

Picker Pals

The 1st Class girls have been taking part in the Picker Pal Programme. Once a week 2 girls from each first class take a Picker Pack home and collect litter in their local area. This is a very enjoyable experience for the girls as they go on an adventure in helping their community.

Our Green School Code

Congratulations to Isabelle Heffernan in Ms. Lambe’s 2nd class who won our Slogan competition. Her slogan said: “Go Green and save our nation, it’s up to us, we’re the next generation”.

The whole school will now learn this slogan as our Green School Code!

Battery Recycling

Please bring your wasted batteries into school and add them to your classroom box. Call on your family and friends and gather their wasted batteries too, the more the better!

The Big Travel Challenge 2023

This February, our school took part in the Green Schools “Big Travel Challenge”. We challenged St. Brigid’s girls to come to school in a more sustainable way – by walking, scooting, cycling, carpooling or by “Parking and Striding”. The girls really engaged with this challenge and our committee checked in with the classes throughout the 10 days to monitor our progress. In order to promote the challenge, the Green School Committee ran a poster competition and were blown away by the talent. Check out the winning posters below – Rebecca Healy (5th class) and Angela Liu (1st class). Remember, use less fuel and walk to school!
