Green Schools

St. Brigid’s GNS is dedicated to promoting the Green Schools initiative run by An Taisce. So far we have been awarded 6 Green Flags:

  1. Litter and Waste
  2. Energy
  3. Water
  4. Travel
  5. Biodiversity
  6. Global Citizenship – Litter and Waste

This year, we are aiming to achieve our 7th Green Flag for Global Citizenship – Energy.

Our Green Schools Committee are working hard to make sure everyone does their part in conserving energy at home and in school.

Meet our Green School Committee:

Battery Recycling

The WEEE Ireland Schools Battery Recycling Competition is back! Together we’ll be helping to tackle climate change, while also supporting the families and staff at LauraLynn, Irelands children’s hospice.

We’ll also be in with a chance of winning a €2000 Sports Equipment voucher for our school!

Please bring your wasted batteries into school and add them to your classroom box. Call on your family and friends and gather their wasted batteries too, the more the better!

The Big Travel Challenge 2023

This February, our school took part in the Green Schools “Big Travel Challenge”. We challenged St. Brigid’s girls to come to school in a more sustainable way – by walking, scooting, cycling, carpooling or by “Parking and Striding”. The girls really engaged with this challenge and our committee checked in with the classes throughout the 10 days to monitor our progress. In order to promote the challenge, the Green School Committee ran a poster competition and were blown away by the talent. Check out the winning posters below – Rebecca Healy (5th class) and Angela Liu (1st class). Remember, use less fuel and walk to school!
