Easter Update

The lead-up to Easter has been filled with colour and celebration.

March was a particularly special time, as we celebrated both St. Patrick’s Day and Seachtain na Gaeilge. Our school was alive with green, music, and Irish culture, while students made a fantastic effort to use and enjoy the Irish language. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and pride throughout the school.

Engineer’s Week- 4th Class

Fourth Class pupils celebrated Engineers’ Week from March 2nd-6th by taking part in a variety of engaging STEM activities. The girls enjoyed a series of hands-on challenges in the classroom, including designing and constructing a bridge strong enough to hold a bag of 100 coins.

On Wednesday, a parents’ panel was hosted, where four parents shared insights into their careers in engineering and emphasised the importance of encouraging more girls to pursue the field. Earlier in the week, Engineers Ireland visited the school to deliver an interactive workshop on renewable energy. During this session, the girls designed and built their own windmills and tested their effectiveness using a hair dryer.

World Book Day

Our school celebrated World Book Day on 5th March. The annual school book fair was held in the hall. Classes took part in a variety of activities to celebrate the day, including visiting Cabinteely Library, bringing in blankets and cushions to cosy up in the classroom and read, and creating art inspired by their favourite books.

Spring Lunch

The 2nd Annual St Brigid’s Spring Lunch was a great success, bringing together parents, friends, and our school community for a memorable occasion.

An amazing €15,400 was raised to support both schools. The girls’ school will use the funds to create a sensory garden, while the boys’ school will invest in ongoing improvements and resources.

A big thank you to the organising committee, Sinéad Clarke, Orla Fogarty, Andrea Hayes, Ruth Hosey, Emma McCarthy, Laura Roche and Louise Ryan, and to everyone who joined and supported the event. Your generosity and community spirit are greatly appreciated.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Our school celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge from March 16th to 20th.

On Monday, the girls joined St Brigid’s Boys for a Paráid sa pháirc. They had the opportunity to meet their buddies and walk with them through the park, and also wore green to mark Lá Glas.

Throughout the week, the girls took part in a comórtas postaeir, with each class focusing on their own seanfhocal. They were also encouraged to create an Irish-themed bosca lóin, using as much green, white, and orange as possible in their lunchboxes.

A big thank you to Deirdre for coming in to help all classes prepare for the school céilí. The girls thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and learned so much.

The week concluded with a whole-school assembly on Friday. Winners of the poster competition and the Cainteoir na Seachtaine from each class were announced and presented with their prizes—maith sibh do na buaiteoirí! At the assembly, the girls joined together in singing Báidín Fheilimí and Oró Sé do Bheatha Bhaile, and also performed the Haka Gaelach.

A special thank you to the teachers who helped organise Seachtain na Gaeilge: Ms Barr, Ms Darcy, Ms McDonnell, Ms Morris, Ms Mahon, and Ms Reilly.

Seo Faisean

Fourth and fifth classes took part in a Seó Faisean this month. They dressed up in a variety of stylish and creative outfits and confidently strutted their stuff down the catwalk. Each group had the opportunity to showcase their looks while using their Gaeilge to describe what they were wearing. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it was a fun and engaging way to build their confidence and enhance their Irish language skills

First Penance

On Monday, 23rd March, the 2nd class pupils preparing for their First Holy Communion made their first penance. They had worked very hard learning their prayers and songs in preparation for this special occasion. A big thank you to their teachers, Ms Barr, Ms Morris, and Ms Reilly, Father Paul, and their parents for supporting and guiding them.

Hot School Meals - Nourish & Green

This month, our school has started receiving hot meals from Nourish and Green, and the girls are absolutely loving them. It has been wonderful to see the girls enjoying a nutritious meal together while trying new flavours and dishes.

School Teams

The soccer and camogie teams are now up and running, with everyone getting involved and training enthusiastically.

After Easter, the camogie team will compete in the Cumann na mBunscoil, while the soccer team will take part in the FAI schools tournament.

It’s wonderful to see so many girls representing the school with pride. Best of luck to all players!
