Congratulations to our 2nd and 6th Class pupils who recently celebrated their First Holy Communion and Confirmation. We are very proud of each and every one of you for reaching these important milestones. Sincere thanks to your families for their support, to our parish community and to Fr Paul for guiding the ceremonies, and to Ms Barr, Ms Bass, Ms Morris, Ms Reilly, Mr Cronin, Ms Kelly, Ms O’Malley, and Ms Redmond for all of their work in preparing the children so well for these special occasions.
Start Smart Workshops- 6th Class
In April, our 6th Class pupils took part in the ‘Start Smarter’ Programme, designed to support them develop their cybersafe awareness as they prepare for the move from primary to second-level education. The programme helped them consider the impact social media has on our mental health and the potential dangers and considerations of the online world.
Earth Day- 22nd April
On 22nd April, some classes took part in activities to celebrate Earth Day on 22nd April, learning about the importance of caring for our planet. The children engaged in discussions and hands-on tasks focused on recycling, protecting nature and making more environmentally friendly choices in everyday life. It was a valuable opportunity to raise awareness and encourage positive actions to help look after our world for the future.
Meitheal Day
We hosted our first Meitheal day on Saturday 25th April, where teacher and parent volunteers came together to work in our School Garden. We thankfully had the weather on our side and a very enthusiastic group which made for a very productive day.
We count ourselves very lucky to have such a large and vibrant outdoor space in our school. Thanks to the hard work of all who gave up their time. Your daughters will be experiencing various areas within the Garden as the teachers have planned an engaging programme of educational activities over this term and the following school year.
Trips to Cabinteely House & Cabinteely House
Fourth Class enjoyed a tour of Cabinteely Park, where they explored its rich history and beautiful surroundings. The pupils learned about the park’s heritage and took part in discussions about how it has changed over time. It was an enjoyable and educational experience, giving everyone a greater appreciation of this local landmark.
First and Second Class enjoyed a tour of Cabinteely House, where they learned about the people who once lived there and what life was like in the past. They discovered how the house was run, including how servants and residents used different staircases, and were fascinated to learn that there was a bell in every room of the house. It was a very interesting and educational visit, bringing local history to life for the children.
St. Brigid's Principal’s Prize Golf Event
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our recent Golf Fundraiser, “The Principal’s Prize.” Thanks to your incredible generosity and participation, we are delighted to share that a fantastic total of €2,415 was raised for each of the schools.
We are truly grateful to all who took part, sponsored tee boxes, purchased Red Tickets, donated raffle prizes, and helped spread the word. Your support made the day such a success both on and off the course including those who joined us afterwards in the Lep Inn and contributed to the wonderful atmosphere and raffle.
Active Week
Active Week was a great success, with all classes taking part in a variety of fun and energetic activities each day. Pupils enjoyed the Active Walkway, skipping challenges, parachute games, races, and a trip to Cabinteely Playground. During the week, we were also delighted to welcome Women in Sport speakers to the school, who spoke to the girls about their experiences in sport and the importance of participation and perseverance. Our guests included past pupil and Bohemian FC player Shauna Carroll, as well as Dublin GAA U23 player and Dublin camogie captain Aisling Groarke. We extend our sincere thanks to both of these women for giving so generously of their time to visit the school and speak to the girls. The week promoted physical activity, teamwork and enjoyment for everyone involved. Many thanks to Mr Spain for organising such a fun and engaging week for the whole school.
Bee Day- 20th May
Many classes celebrated Bee Day on 20th May, learning all about the importance of bees and their role in pollination and the environment. Pupils took part in fun and educational activities, including discussions, art work and awareness tasks focused on how we can help protect bees and their habitats. It was an enjoyable and informative day for all involved.
Santry Sports
Last week, students from St. Brigid’s Girls School proudly represented the school at the Santry Primary School Athletics and had a fantastic day of competition. Congratulations to our bronze medal winners: the U12 relay team of Rachel, Emily, Chloe, Maria and Annabelle, Lucy who won bronze in the long jump, and Maria who also won bronze in the 80 metre sprint. Well done also to Chloe for her performance in shot putt, Emily and Maisie in the 600m long-distance race, and our U13 sprinters Aria, Zara, Sophia, Freya and Avril.
The girls also had the exciting opportunity to meet Nicky Byrne from Westlife, which made the day even more memorable.
All of the girls showed great determination, teamwork and school spirit throughout the day and represented St. Brigid’s brilliantly. Well done to everyone who took part, and a special thank you to Mr Spain and Ms O’Malley for preparing the girls for this event.
Fourth Class Projects and Planting
Fourth Class have been learning all about the Hawthorn tree and completed wonderful projects based on their learning. As part of their learning they planted a Hawthorn tree in the school grounds, kindly gifted to Leah and Saoirse. It will now forever be a part of our school and a lovely reminder of this special project for years to come.
