October Newsletter

October has been a busy and vibrant month. We loved seeing everyone take part in Wellbeing Week, showing such thoughtfulness, teamwork, and care for one another. The school was full of autumn colours and creativity as we wrapped up the month with our Halloween celebrations. Thank you to everyone who helped make this month so positive and memorable.

Value of the Month

Wellbeing Week

We celebrated Wellbeing Week from 6th–10th October. The week was a tremendous success and served as a wonderful reminder of the importance of caring for our wellbeing –  not just for one week, but every day.

A special thank you to the 6th Class girls who choreographed dances for Jumpstart. The whole school thoroughly enjoyed taking part in dances to Jai Ho, The Dreoilín and Can’t Stop the Feeling, providing a lively and positive start to each morning.

Mindful Monday encouraged every class to explore the concept of mindfulness and to practise breathing exercises designed to promote calm and focus.

On Thankful Tuesday, classes created Gratitude Trees to reflect on the many things they appreciate in their lives. Some pupils also wrote letters of thanks to others within the school community. The staff were particularly grateful to the Wellbeing Team, who kindly organised Toasty Tuesday for lunch.

Wellbeing Wednesday saw pupils take part in mindful walks and design vibrant wellbeing posters to display in their classrooms.

During Thoughtful Thursday, each class visited the halla for a short body scan session. Everyone returned to class feeling relaxed, refreshed and ready to learn.

Finally, Friendly Friday brought a wonderful sense of togetherness, as buddy classes met to take part in collaborative and creative activities, a fitting end to a week focused on kindness, gratitude and self-care.

🎃Pre-loved Halloween Costume Sale 👻

Thank you to everyone who donated costumes for our Halloween Costume Sale this year. The event was a great success, supporting our Green School’s goal of promoting sustainability while also offering families a budget-friendly way to find costumes.

A Visit from the Gardaí

Thank you to Garda Gavin, Garda Ed and Garda Sarah, who visited our school on 15th October to speak with 4th, 5th and 6th Class pupils about staying safe at Halloween.

The Gardaí were especially kind to stay afterwards and chat with our three 2nd Classes, answering their questions about the important work Gardaí do in our community.

Earlier, on 29th September, 2nd Class also enjoyed a visit to the library, where they learned more about the role of a librarian and how they support our community.

Gentle Reminders

  • Uniform: All girls must wear their full school uniform every day. Tracksuits are only permitted on PE days.
  • After-School Activities: Pupils may only change for after-school activities once the school day has finished. This is not the responsibility of the class teacher and should not interfere with learning time.
  • Healthy Lunch Policy: The healthy lunch policy must be followed at all times. Ensure your daughter has a healthy lunch free from junk food. St. Brigid’s is a nut-free school.
  • Aladdin: If your child is not in school when the roll is taken, they are marked absent. If your child arrives after this time, the roll will reflect this and the time of arrival will also be noted.

Junior Infant Parent Evening

We had a lovely evening recently welcoming the parents of our new Junior Infants. It was great to meet everyone and mark the beginning of this exciting journey for the girls. We look forward to working together and building a warm, supportive school community for all. Thank you to all who could attend and for the Parents’ Association for organising the refreshments

GAA Teams

It has been an excellent year for our St. Brigid’s Girls Red and Navy teams in the Cumann na mBunscol competitions. Both squads enjoyed two great campaigns filled with competitive matches, teamwork, and steady improvement throughout the season.

There were some tough battles and memorable wins, but most importantly, the girls developed their skills, supported one another, and played every game with pride and enthusiasm.

The season finished on a real high, with impressive victories over Divine Word NS and Gaelscoil Phádraig – a wonderful reward for all their hard work.

Maths Week

1st Classes celebrated Maths Week 2025 with a fantastic range of activities designed to show that maths is everywhere and fun! Students took part in daily puzzles, maths trails, quizzes, and problem-solving challenges.

4th Class Cycling Safety Course

4th Class pupils have been enjoying taking part in cycling lessons over the past few weeks. As part of the programme, they have been learning all about the rules of the road while developing their balance, control, and overall cycling skills. The sessions have been a wonderful mix of fun and learning, helping pupils to become more confident and safe cyclists. Well done to everyone involved!
