Welcome Back

We are excited to begin a new school year and look forward to partnering with you in your daughter’s learning journey. Together, we’ll create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where every student can thrive. Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. Let’s make this year one of growth, discovery, and success!

New Basketball Court

Thanks to last year’s fundraising, we have invested €5,000 to reline our basketball court and add new basketball poles, hoops, and backboards.  This is a fantastic addition for PE lessons and basketball, giving our students an even better place to learn and play.

School Assemblies

Since our return, we have held several school assemblies. Ms. Carroll warmly welcomed the girls back and reminded them what it means to be a Brigid’s girl, highlighting the values we uphold as a school. This month, special focus was placed on our school value of RESPECT

Staff Shout-Outs

Welcome

This month, we were delighted to welcome several new members of staff to St Brigid’s Girls’ School. Joining our team are Ms Cantrell (4th Class), Ms. Daly (1st Class), Ms Lehane (4th Class), Ms Mahon (SET), Ms O’Reilly (1st Class), and Ms Reilly (2nd Class). We are thrilled to have them on board and look forward to the energy, enthusiasm, and expertise they will bring to our school community.

We also extend a warm welcome back to Ms Kilty, who has returned to the SET team on a part-time basis – it’s lovely to have her back with us.

SNA Appreciation Day

On Thursday, 25th September, we celebrated the incredible work and dedication of our Special Needs Assistants here at St Brigid’s Girls’ School. A heartfelt thank you to Ms Bass, Ms Lynch, Ms Redmond, and Ms Totterdale for the care, support, and kindness they show every day. Their commitment makes a huge difference in the lives of our pupils, and we are so grateful to have them as part of our school community.

Halloween Costume Sale 🎃

We’re excited to bring back our Halloween Costume Sale this year! If your daughter has costumes she has outgrown, we would love if you could donate them for our sale.

This event helps us support our Green Schools goal of promoting sustainability, while also giving families a budget-friendly way to find costumes.

All money raised will go directly towards supporting our school.

Tesco Blue Token Fundraising

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Tesco for including our school in their Blue Token Community Fundraiser. We are also deeply grateful to all parents, families, and friends who supported us by placing their blue tokens in our box.

Thanks to your generosity, we raised an incredible €532!
This will go directly towards supporting our school and helping us provide the best possible opportunities for our pupils.

Your continued support makes such a difference!

School Sports

In-School Sports Coaches

To help make sure the girls get the very best out of their PE lessons, we’re lucky to have external coaches come in and work alongside us. They bring their skills and energy to a range of sports, including gymnastics, dance, basketball and Gaelic football. The girls always look forward to their visits – it’s a real treat to see familiar, friendly faces each week, and the fun activities they plan are always a big hit.

GAA Teams

Our red and navy teams got straight back into training for the Cumann na mBunscol championship as soon as school resumed. They’ve shown great commitment and teamwork, and we’re so proud of the fantastic job they’re doing representing our school.

Coach Ciarán

We’re very lucky to have Ciarán from FoxCab GAA Club working with our Junior Infants this term. He has been focusing on ball skills and helping the girls build their fundamental movement skills in fun and engaging ways. The children have been thoroughly enjoying these sessions – there’s always plenty of smiles and excitement when it’s time for PE with Ciarán!

It’s not just the younger girls who benefit either – small groups from 5th and 6th Class also get the chance to work with him each week. These sessions give the older girls an opportunity to further develop their skills, improve their confidence, and enjoy learning from such an experienced coach.

Say Yes to Languages

Our 5th and 6th class pupils have just started Spanish language classes with Ms. Silvia as part of the Say Yes to Languages programme. The school has successfully applied to participate in this programme over the last number of years and is delighted to have the opportunity to do so. This initiative, run by the Department of Education, aims to support schools in offering additional languages and help pupils develop their language skills and cultural awareness. The students are excited to begin learning a new language and exploring a different culture.

Historical Society Visit

Pádraig Laffan from the local Historical Society visited the 5th Classes in September. He gave a very interesting talk about the historical features in our local area. We can’t wait to go and visit them all!

Blackberry Picking

After a beautiful, sunny summer, there was an excellent crop of blackberries in our school garden. The 4th Classes made good use of this one afternoon and picked as many blackberries as they could. These will be made into jam but I suspect some may have been used for taste testing purposes too!
