September Update

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to all our pupils, families and staff! We hope everyone had a wonderful summer and enjoyed a well-deserved break. It has been lovely to see the school full of life again as we begin a new school year.

A very special welcome to our new Junior Infants and to all the new pupils and families who have joined our school community this year. We are delighted to have you with us and hope you feel very much at home.

We also welcome some new staff to our school and we hope that everybody makes them feel welcome. We are looking forward to a happy and exciting year ahead, filled with lots of learning, new experiences, friendship and fun!

Forest School

St. Brigid’s very first in-school Forest School sessions kicked off on 9th September with Ms. Kilmartin and Ms. Daly’s First Class. The girls have been thoroughly enjoying their time outdoors, exploring our school garden and taking in the early signs of autumn.

Equipped with magnifying glasses, the girls have been discovering minibeasts under rocks and leaves, exploring our new den set-up, hunting for bugs and investigating all sorts of seeds. Between active discovery and relaxing in hammocks, these hands-on, play-based experiences are building their confidence, independence and curiosity, showing them just how much there is to discover right here in our own school garden.

We are really looking forward to continuing our journey of learning and exploring in nature!

A very special thank you to Ms. Lynch, who has kick-started this wonderful Forest School initiative in St. Brigid’s and brought this exciting opportunity to our school. We are so grateful for all the time, energy and enthusiasm she has put into getting Forest School up and running.

A big shout-out also to our wonderful parent volunteers who have helped make this initiative possible.

New Sensory Garden

Over the summer holidays, the area outside our sensory room underwent a wonderful transformation!

Thanks to our parents’ fundraising efforts, we now have a beautiful sensory garden for all the girls to enjoy. Sensory gardens stimulate the five senses—sight, sound, smell, touch and taste—while supporting mental, emotional and physical well-being.

A huge thank you to landscaper Dean Lacey, father of Fiadh, Holly and Georgia, for bringing this wonderful space to life through his company, LandArt. We are also incredibly grateful to all our parents for their generous fundraising support. Without you, this would not have been possible!

Dot Day

On 15th September, our school celebrated Dot Day with a whole-school art activity. Pupils created lots of different and colourful dots to showcase the creativity across our school. Their artwork was brought together to create a beautiful masterpiece, now proudly displayed in the school hall. It was a lovely celebration of creativity and teamwork!

Swimming

Second and Third Class have been enjoying their swimming lessons in Castlepark over the past few weeks. The girls have been making great progress, building their confidence and developing their swimming skills each week. The programme has been a great success so far, with the girls showing lots of enthusiasm and determination in the pool.

Librarian Visit- Aideen Kerr

As Cabinteely Library is currently undergoing some works, we were very fortunate to have Aideen Kerr get in touch with us and come in for a special visit. Aideen read some Irish myths with the pupils and answered their questions about her role and life as a librarian. The girls really enjoyed hearing all about the work that goes on in a library and had lots of interesting questions to ask. A big thank you to Aideen for taking the time to visit us!

Green School and Student Council Elections

Congratulations to all the pupils who were elected to represent their classes on the Green Schools Committee and Student Council. We are looking forward to seeing the fantastic ideas, leadership and enthusiasm they will bring to their roles throughout the year. We are excited to see the positive changes they will help to make across our school community.

Cycling Safety Course - 4th Class

Fourth Class pupils have been enjoying their cycling lessons over the past few weeks. As part of the programme, they have been learning about road safety and the rules of the road while developing their balance, control and cycling skills. The sessions have been a great combination of fun and learning, helping the pupils to build their confidence and become safer cyclists. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they develop their skills each week.

History of our School - Leah McFeely visit with 5th Class

The 5th classes were delighted to welcome our former deputy principal and former student, Leah McFeely back for a visit. She discussed all about her time as a student of St. Brigid’s and her memories of being a student in Mart Lane. She shared old photos of the area from when she was growing up. The girls even got to see her name written in an old roll book! She then talked with the girls about her life as a teacher in the school and all the changes that have happened over the years.

GAA

We have two Gaelic football teams representing St. Brigid’s in the Cumann na mBunscoil competitions this year. The girls have been training very hard since returning to school, and it has been fantastic to see their commitment and enthusiasm!

Our Sixth Class team finished top of their group, winning three out of four group games and now have a quarter-final to look forward to. Our Fifth Class team have also enjoyed a great league campaign, going on an unbeaten run and finishing top of their league!

A huge well done to all the girls involved. It is brilliant to see everyone working together, supporting one another and proudly representing St. Brigid’s. Maith sibh!

School Closing for October Midterm Break

The calendar for this school year can be found on this link: https://www.stbrigidsgirlsschool.com/calendar/

Please download the Aladdin Connect App as a matter of priority. Most school communication is sent through the app, so it is essential that all parents/guardians have access to it. The app will also provide important information about school closure days throughout the year, especially as we have some additional school closure dates, yet to be announced. Christmas performance dates and times will also be available to see on the app.

If you are experiencing any issues with your registration number, please contact the school office for assistance.

Gentle Reminders

  • Uniform: All girls must wear their full school uniform every day. Tracksuits are only permitted on PE days.
  • After-School Activities: Pupils may only change for after-school activities once the school day has finished. This is not the responsibility of the class teacher and should not interfere with learning time. Please ensure that you do not park in the school car park at drop off or collection from school or after school activities. This car park is for staff cars only and this is to ensure safety of our pupils. Older pupils are not allowed to use any mobile device or smartwatch while on school grounds, including at after-school activities.
  • Drop off and Collection: Please ensure that the school car park is not used for parking at drop off, collection or during after school activities. The car park is reserved for staff cars only. This is an important safety measure to help keep our pupils safe at all times. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
  • Healthy Lunch Policy: The healthy lunch policy must be followed at all times. (https://www.stbrigidsgirlsschool.com/routines-info-faq/ – What should lunches look like?)
