Spring Update

Spring is in full bloom, and with it comes a season of growth, new opportunities, and exciting events at St. Brigid’s GNS.

Read below how we have been embracing spring and the different activities and events over the past two months.

Orchestral Achievement

Our school orchestra had a wonderful achievement when they won first place at the Interschools Music Festival. Their continuous work and weekly practices were clear to see and we are all so proud of them!

Soccer Team

Sensory Room

Last year we had a very successful fundraiser for our new Sensory Room. We are now waiting for the final touch to be completed which is an external finish on the room. Otherwise, the Sensory Room is now fully open and in use. We are so grateful to have this space in our school and your fundraising made it happen.

Brigid's First Camogie Team

We’re beyond excited to announce a huge milestone for our school — the launch of our very first camogie team!

This marks a proud new chapter in our sporting journey, and we couldn’t be prouder of the amazing group of girls who are stepping up, picking up their hurleys, and making history together. With passion, teamwork, and a whole lot of determination, they’re already proving that they’re a force to be reckoned with!

Willow Weaving in the Garden

The 6th classes have been assisting in the garden by clearing paths and spreading bark mulch. They also helped to remove the old bird hide which has become damaged by recent storms. Fiona also showed the 6th classes how to weave with willow. They made some wigwams to allow runner beans to climb when they are planted.

Odd Socks Day

The school collected €775 for the Down Syndrome Centre on World Down Syndrome Day.

The girls wore Odd Socks on the day to promote the celebration of differences.

National Children's Choir Concert

The 5th and 6th classes impressed us all with their outstanding performance among 500 children at the National Children’s Choir concert. Their concert at the National Basketball Arena continued our tradition of spectacular performances at this prestigious event.

The girls have been practicing a wide-ranging repertoire since September, and their hard work truly paid off. Special thanks to Ms. McCarthy and Ms. Morris for leading weekly choir practices with such dedication.

The evening was made even more special as our former teacher, Ms. Órla Gillan, conducted the choir beautifully.

Forest Schools

We have been very lucky in our school garden as Ms. Lynch has introduced the concept of Forest Schools. Ms. McDonnell’s Senior Infants have been engaging in a weekly session with Ms. Lynch in the garden. They have been learning about predators, prey, biodiversity and shelters. They have been delighted with their time in the garden and engaging with nature.

Hatching Chicks

The Junior Infant classes had an egg-citing two weeks when they welcomed some very special guests — baby chicks!

An incubator with 4 eggs arrived and over a few days, beaks cracked through the shell to reveal four fluffy chicks.

The four chicks received a continuous line of visitors from across the school and caused absolute delight during their stay. We were sad to see them go but they flew the coop after two weeks leaving us with wonderful memories.

Cyber Safe Ireland Talks

Our school is one of eight local schools chosen to participate in the Start Smarter Pilot Project. This initiative is led by CYPSC Dún Laoghaire and CyberSafeKids Ireland. The project’s mission is to make the online world safer for children — and children safer online — through a whole-school and community approach.

CyberSafeKids recently visited our school, delivering 40-minute talks to 1st and 2nd classes, and conducting a full day of workshops with each 6th class. We are delighted to be part of this pilot project and look forward to continuing our involvement. It supports our No Smartphone Pledge and plays a key role in educating our students about online safety.

Fyffes Fittest School

Fyffes Fiittest School is a programme sponsored by Fyffes which provides schools with a 10 week programme of exercises. Classes across the school have been trying these lessons and improving their fitness. The school also got a visit from Fyffes, with Sharon Flanagan coming in and doing a fitness class to help inspire the fitness programme. Classes engaged really well with this programme, finishing in the top 10 for schools in Dublin!  We are already looking forward to taking part again next year!
